Crazy doctor

For years an Australian doctor genitally mutilated women without their knowing it.

How can it be possible for a doctor to continue  harming women grievously and willfully, despite being charged, dismissed and banned from his profession?

An article in the “Sydney Morning Herald“, an Australian daily paper, describes the martyrdom of several Australian women. One woman describes how a long established gynaecologist genitally mutilated her under the pretext of removing a growth on the inner labium. Just before the anaesthetic kicked in he whispered: “I will remove your clitoris too”. Now the woman hopes that one of the assistants also heard this. The case will shortly be taken to court.

After her case became known, many other women, who had also been damaged by this doctor, came forward. They also claim the “doctor” mutilated them, but out of shame they had kept quiet about it until now. The logical consequences: due to their shame and injuries, the affected women could no longer let their partners touch their genitals, the relationships went to pieces. Carolyn Dewaegeneire, the courageous woman who brought the story into the open, also states: “It took several months for me to be able to sit on a chair without pain, more than a year until I could use toilet paper. Every nerve was screaming.”

In a chronology, the newspaper writes that this doctor should have long been suspended from the health service. The allegations against him have existed for years and also comprise, as well as the mutilations, charges of sexual harassment and false diagnoses that lead to one woman´s death.

This story highlights the need for more supervision in the area of public health care. People must not be at the mercy of such “doctors”, we must develop a system to protect all patients!
