UNICEF says that the elimination of FGM in Ethiopia is „not possible“ until 2080

Alarming news reach us from the UNICEF office in Ethiopia: The elimination of FGM in Ethiopia will not be possible until 2080! According to the 2005 Ethiopia Health Survey the rate of FGM declined from 80 percent in 2000 to 74 percent in 2005. A lot remains to be done in the country to reduce FGM because according to the 2007 UN Secretary-General´s report on violence against children, Ethiopia is one of the countries with the highest rates of FGM in Africa. Others are Egypt, Sudan and Niger.
