Hundreds of school girls are threatened by FGM during Christmas holidays in the UK, according to yersterday’s Independent on Sunday. All necessary laws exist in the UK, but the authorities and politicians are not willing to control the laws. “Nice words have no effect”, says Waris Dirie. “It is a shame that in the 21st century a nation like the UK is not able to abolish FGM in its own country. There is a lack of will, money and efforts. It is obvious that the government is not interested in the fate of black little girls. Nobody in this government knows if 20.000, 70.000 or 200.000 girls are threatened by FGM. Today, politicians are more concerned about their election campaigns and their inability to deal with an economic crisis which they partly caused themselves. What a shame!’”
