Egypt – For the first time since the banning of FGM in 2008, a man has been charged for practicing the illegal procedure in Egypt. The 69-year-old was accused of genitally mutilating an 11-year-old girl after being asked to do so by the victim’s family. The girl was rushed to a Cairo hospital to treat severe complications after the procedure was performed. The man said before court that the victim’s parents paid him 27 US Dollars for performing the mutilation.
