    Dear Waris,

I’ve just saw your movie desert flower. I am studying to become a CMA and was horrified to see that these practices are so prominent. I have seen an actual autopsy, but it did not touch me the way this movie did. Something must be done to stop these terrible acts of torture. But I would to commend you for your courage to speak out and share your story; and for your work to stop this from happening to other girls/women.

I am planning to bring awareness of this to my college community through an club I am Vice President of The Rotorac club. We sponsor events to raise money for charities and/or people of need.

    Dear Waris,

I first learnt about your incredible story in high school. I had never heard of FGM before reading ‘Desert Flower’ and since then it always been in the back of my mind. I wanted you to know that due to your courage to share your story, I have pursued a career in womens health and have decided to continue my post graduate education surrounding FGM in Australia.
You are truely an inspiration to women all over the world, and all together hopefully we can eradicate this horrible tradition.

Thank You for having the courage to speak up. All the best to you.

For those who are involved in this evil and ignorant practice – educate yourself, and have some respect for human beings and human life, and the quality of life of women. There is no justification for the horror of cutting a female child. Ethnicity, religion, tradition, they are no excuse for commiting these atrocities on any woman or child.

Thank You Waris Dirie for your courage

    Dear Waris,
I’ve just read your book, and I must say I’m shocked. I couldn’t believe that that kind of things are happening all around the world. You were so brave, if I was you just for a moment, I think I would give up. Women should be respected, and I think you just gave them a motive, they deserve to live fully alive, nobody deserves that kind of pain.

I just watched this movie with my 2 teenage daughters & my husband. We were all deeply moved. I am so grateful for Waris growing into the woman she did. Most people would have been broken by these experiences. To not only survive but to go on to do something positive because of it is incredible. We live in a desert & I can’t imagine surviving a week in it. May you be God Blessed to live long and see great steps towards this practise stopping during your life time.
