Setting FGM doctor free for 4,5$ million bond

Highest bond ever set in U.S. District Court for Eastern Michigan

Michigan doctor Jumana Nagarwala who's accused of performing genital mutilation surgery on at least six girls will be released from federal custody on a $4.5 million unsecured bond with strict conditions.

Dr. Jumana Nagarwala is believed to have cut at least six girls at a clinic in suburban Detroit. She denies committing a crime and defends herself by saying she performed a religious custom from the India-based sect Dawoodi Bohra.

The bond is the highest one ever set in the U.S. District Court for Eastern Michigan and is guaranteed by 17 people! 17 people, who believe that the act of FGM is right.

The risk of Dr. Nagarwala leaving the country is high, say attorneys, since she flew out to Kenya after being convicted.

Was is the right decision to release Dr. Nagarwala on a bond?
Preparing for a trial can be done out of prison as well, but risking  Nagarwala to leave the country was definitely not the right decision.

FGM is a crime which deserves a strict punishment!
