Berlin – The German Parliament has adopted a new regulation on the period of limitation of FGM. As FGM is usually erformed on very young girls, the crime had often become time-barred by the time the victims were old enough to take legal action. A new legislation will no postpose the 5 years (for assault) or 10 years (for aggravated assault) of limitation for FGM to set in only after the ictims has reached legal age. There was no agreement about further suggested changes, such as making FGM a case of aggravated assault by default.
