On October 9th, Waris Dirie became the godmother of the plant gray cubawn grass. She was given this title by the Austrian minister for agricultur, Niki Berlakovich, in Vienna.

Gray clubawn grass is a very robust plant that can survive temperatures of up to 60 °C and grows in dry deserts as well as throughout Europe. In Austria, gray clubawn grass is threatened with extinction.
