Education stops female genital mutilation

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE STUDENTS OF OUR WERNER HOLZER DESERT FLOWER SCHOOL

Students of our Werner Holzer Desert Flower School.

Female genital mutilation (FGM) exists only because this inequality between men and women still exists. That is why we focus on education for girls in the fight against this cruel ritual. This is the key to our big education campaign for Africa, which we have been pushing for the last six years. Nelson Mandela already said, "Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world." And he was right.

We can see that every day in our work. Like recently at the end of term at our Werner Holzer Desert Flower School in Allentown in Sierra Leone. Every single girl has become a proud Desert Flower ambassador for the fight against FGM. In order for the school to be built at all, the entire community had to renounce the FGM ritual.

The Werner Holzer School is one of three Desert Flower schools in Sierra Leone so far. A fourth school, the Africa Aweee School, is currently being built in Hastings near the capital Freetown. We will then enable a total of 1,600 children to attend school.

EDUCATION STOPS FGM!
