Intensive seminars for doctors, midwives and nursing staff at the Waldfriede Hospital in Berlin

Team of doctors at the Waldfriede Hospital in Berlin.

Every 11 seconds a girl is mutilated by the ritual circumcision of the female genitals. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), up to 250 million girls and women are affected worldwide. Up to 70,000 people are also affected in Germany!

The world's first Desert Flower Center was opened at the Waldfriede Hospital in Berlin on 11 September 2013 under the patronage of Waris Dirie, founder of the Desert Flower Foundation. The aim is to offer genital mutilated women holistic medical care. This includes not only surgical interventions and reconstructive operations, but also psychological and physiotherapeutic help.

Many doctors who are consulted have neither knowledge nor experience and are unsure how to deal with affected women. Since 2018, an intensive seminar for colleagues, midwives and nursing professions has been offered twice a year. The intensive seminar provides you with comprehensive information about our work and gives you practical tips.

The last seminar of this kind took place on 13-14 August 2019. The picture on the left shows the participants and the medical management team of Dr. Uwe von Fritschen, Dr. Cornelia Strunz and Dr. Roland Scherer (from left to right).

If you are interested in our intensive seminars, please register early in writing by e-mail to: desertflower@waldfriede.de. Thank you very much!
