Indian top court demands FGM-ban!

Big breakthrough for the Women's and Girls's Rights in India: Supreme Court fights against Female Genital Mutilation!

Together with the federal government, Indian's Supreme Court is working towards ending FGM in India, calling the "filing against the horrific practice extremely important and sensitive".

The Attorney General emphasizes that this practice is a violation of fundamental human rights and that it has got a serious "repercussions on women's health".
Contrary to the argument that FGM is an accepted religious practice, the court emphasized that it can not be a religious accepted and necessary practice if it violates the integrity of the girls. Nobody should be in control of the genitals of a human being!

FGM violates several UN treaties signed by India, i.a. The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, or the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

It is a discrimination against women and violates the rights of children!
Female genital mutilation must be prohibited by law in every country!

We urge the Indian government to keep its word and introduce a strong law against FGM!
