Louisa was saved from FGM by your donation

Miss Desert Flower is our ambassador 2019 in Sierra Leone

Waris with Louisa, our Miss Desert Flower Sierra Leone.

Ten-year-old Louisa is our "Miss Desert Flower 2018" in Sierra Leone. And she is one of over 1000 girls saved from female genital mutilation (FGM) in the West African state through your generous donation. Louisa is 2019 ambassador of the Desert Flower Foundation and speaker of all rescued small "desert flowers". Louisa will represent us on official occasions and give lectures on the work of the Desert Flower Foundation.

But how did Louisa become "Miss Desert Flower 2018" in Sierra Leone? All 1000 sponsored children took part in the competition. Songs and poems were performed in a talent show. They also had to pass a quiz with questions about FGM, Waris Dirie and the Desert Flower Foundation. In the end, 20 girls qualified for the final round. Louisa took the victory in a large-scale, but above all very loud final, in which numerous "desert flowers" were cheered on by their fan clubs.

Louisa proudly wears her crown for one year, until the next competition of the Desert Flower Foundation in Sierra Leone. As the official representative of the more than 1000 girls we saved from the brutal ritual of female genital mutilation in Sierra Leone thanks to your donations. Thank you very much!
