THIS IS REALLY SENSATIONAL!
Our musical Wüstenblume, which tells the stirring life story of our founder Waris Dirie and which plays at the Theater St. Gallen, Switzerland, has been nominated in no less than 6 (!!) categories at the renowned German Musical Theatre Award 2021. Specifically in:
Wüstenblume - Theatre St. Gallen
Wüstenblume - Uwe Fahrenkrog-Petersen
Best Musical Arrangement
Wüstenblume - Koen Schoots
Wüstenblume - Gil Mehmert
Wüstenblume - Jonathan Huor
Best Actress in a Leading Role
Wüstenblume - Naomi Simmonds
This is a great honour and makes us all very proud. In the run-up to the world premiere in February 2020, there were always doubts as to whether such a sensitive topic would even fit on a musical stage. After the premiere, however, these doubts were all dispelled. "Goosebump moments at the musical Wüstenblume" was the headline of the Süddeutsche Zeitung, for example. The message of Waris Dirie and the musical makers to give courage to all girls and women had been received. While awareness was raised for the so important fight against female genital mutilation (FGM).
The sensational nominations are a great satisfaction for everyone involved after the forced break due to the Corona pandemic. From 27th October 2021, Wüstenblume will be performed again at the St. Gallen Theatre. But even before that, on 4th October, we are all looking excitedly to Hamburg. On that day, the final winners of the German Musical Theatre Award 2021 will be announced!
