Waris Dirie: My mission in Sierra Leone

My next trip will take me to Sierra Leone. And I take a lot of time for that. I will get to know each and every one of our godchildren personally over Christmas and New Year, listen to their wishes, dreams and, of course, worries. Furthermore, I will talk to the parents and the girls' teachers. Personal contact is very important to me!

I am particularly looking forward to the laying of the foundation stone of the first "Desert Flower School", a unique and wonderful project in my fight against female genital mutilation. Education is the key factor taken to a whole new level by this school in Sierra Leone.

During my stay, I will meet important politicians and media representatives of the country, including Sierra Leone's First Lady, whom I absolutely want to sensitize for my FGM project.

I will also use the time in Sierra Leone to celebrate a big Desert Flower Christmas with the girls. In doing so, I will listen to the wishes of each girl.

Last but not least! A large TV documentary will be shot on the work of the Desert Flower Foundation Sierra Leone. My thanks to the members of the Desert Flower Foundation and their tireless dedication to our common fight against FGM!

Sierra Leone - I'm coming!!

Love,

Waris
