1 Million schoolbooks for Africa

In Africa, only one out of 30 schoolchildren owns a schoolbook.

Many pupils can neither read nor write even after four years of school attendance due to the severe lack of school supplies.

42% of the African population are still illiterate - most of them girls and women.

Statistics show that the educational crisis promotes poverty, a high birth rate and FGM.

Only if we invest in education we will be able to eradicate FGM.

Due to this fact, Waris Dirie wrote in cooperation with pedagogues together  "My Africa-The Journey", the first reading book for children in Africa and will distribute it to African children together with a Desert Flower Power Education Box.

Desert Flower Education Box

The aim of our education campaign is to give a education box to 1 million children in Africa, thus opening the door to a better future.

"My Africa- the Journey" tells the story of the Little Desert Flower Waris and her brother Mo, who are on a journey to discover their home Africa.

Waris Dirie's first reading book contains  also numerous exercises which support the children at learning how  to read and write.

The education box includes: "My Africa- The Journey", an exercise book, a set of colored pencils, a sharpener, a ruler, an eraser and a school bag.

It is the first important step to counter illiteracy and thus poverty and FGM in Africa.

Support us now and give a child in Africa its first education box!
